i'm sooooo confused .. and ignorant ... about swans' nests
scared the lady is gonna repiet last year's failure ... her weight slowly pushed the eggs too deep into the well soaked ground, thru the shallow nest (she's made with mere green grass) to keep them warm enough ... at least i think it was that rather than infertility .. i am disappointed and even more suprised she didn't pull a bunch of crackly yellowed stems through the goat fence she's right up against below the 2 meter steep incline to the ditch at her parcel's edge.
but god ... there's about 8 or 9 lives at stake here ...
She's overly worried about predators obviously. Dreams of foxes that haven't been sighted here for generations .... 'erfelijk belast' is what that is .... she even braves humans walking dogs on the dijk and cars, and a front door barely 10 meters away, the first one of which is a ditch ...
i got a good armful of softish well dry stems and approached her talking ..... she left the nest before i got within 10 meters .... i left the bundle at 2 meters from it and waited ... she came back within 5 minutes and spent some time preening ... 10 minutes i guess ...
i thought of rearranging ... i could try push some 'plukken' under the grass she put down ... i need to speak to an expert quick ...
guess what ... youtube took down all the pat metheny playlists or keeps them out of suggestions .... ????
